What's there to do in port?

Typically ships arrive in a port in the early morning giving you time to shop, play golf, tennis, or take a guided tour. You can go ashore and explore the land or beach. You can have lunch on the ship - you can always come back. Enjoy duty free shopping.

Going ashore is half the fun on a cruise.  They have optional tours at every port that are bound to intrigue you and offer you a little something different in the way of excitement. What you do is up to you.  Before each port of call, there a brief lecture to familiarize you with the port and its various shore excursions.

Are there children programs?

Most cruise lines offer programs for children. Many ships offer age specific supervised   activities, camps, day care and also baby-sitting services for the evenings.  If your children enjoy swimming, games, movies and the adventure of new places they'll love a cruise.

What kind of clothing should I bring?

Remember you're on vacation. Casual attire and resort wear is fine for both onboard and ashore.  Shorts, slacks, sundresses, blouses, etc. are fine for women. Clothing for men is just as casual.  You should bring a pair of comfortable sandals or sneakers and a great pair of good walking shoes.  You might want to bring a sweater or jacket for cool evenings.  You'll have a chance to dress up one night on a 3 or 4 day cruise and two nights on a 7 day or longer cruise for the Captain' s Cocktail Party and the Gala Farewell Dinner.  A formal dress or Sunday dress for women and formal dress or dark suit for men.

What about money?

U.S currency, traveler's checks and credit card are accepted in most port of calls.   For aboard purchases most cruise line have  a credit program which allows you to charge on board  purchase to your personal account.  If you plan to make any purchases onboard you will be required to open up an account with a cash deposit or credit card for onboard purchases. You are issued a card that looks like a credit card to make purchases onboard ship. If you opened this with a credit card all charges will be billed to that card, if a cash deposit was used you will receive a itemized statement at the end of the cruise and any remaining deposit refunded.
